In 1873 land along the Old Reading Turnpike was donated to local residents for the purpose of erecting a church. On the land many beautiful ash trees grew, thus the name Ash Grove. The church erected on this land was used until it was moved the accommodate the current church.
In the 1920’s and 30’s many new homes were built in the community. Rev. Melvin Sponsler assumed the pastorage of several area churches in 1935. He saw the need, the condition of the church, and the willingness of the people to erect a new church. The cornerstone for a new church was laid in 1938. It was completed at a cost of $15,850 plus glass, furniture and carpets. It continues to serve the congregation in the 21st century.
